7. Components Required not included with Kits

Due to their shipping weight and general availability, the following components are not included with the kits we sell. However, they will be needed to complete the window defogging process.

1. Dremel Rotary Drilling Tool - Commonly found at your local hardware store. We suggest you buy the cordless model. If you do not already own a Dremel, for the few extra dollars, it will be much easier and safer to use than any plug in model.
2. The Washing Solution - Commonly found at your local department and hardware stores. Cleaning Vinegar, 10% acetic acid by volume works best, although regular white vinegar, anywhere from 5% to 10% will work fine. Before use, read warning labels. The acetic acid in vinegar acts quickly to break down the kind of film and mineral deposits that frequently accumulate on the inside of the failed double paned glass window surfaces. At less than $5 / gallon, 4 gallons or 16 liters will be enough to repair up to 50 units.
3. The Rinsing Solution - Commonly found at your local hardware store. Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol or methyl hydrate, will flow over the glass surfaces evenly to remove any vinegar and water droplets, assist in the drying process, and leave the window clean with no residue. Methanol is poisonous and flammable in high concentrations, so before use, read warning labels. At roughly $10 / gallon, 4 gallons or 16 liters will be enough to repair up to 50 units. An alternative which works just as well is Denatured Alcohol at roughly the same price.
4. Spacer Bar Desiccant Sealer (Optional) - Commonly found at your local hardware store. Use Shellac or an alcohol based sealant which will not add moisture to your window. Before use, read warning labels. It will seal and prevent moisture accumulation within the desiccant of the bottom spacer bar. At roughly $20 per quart/liter, two quarts or two liters will be enough to repair up to 50 units. This is a precautionary measure (optional) to prevent moisture ingress and accumulation within the desiccant of the bottom spacer bar as a window seal repair. Tip: Do not use a mineral spirits or water based sealant.
